From April 2008 the five local Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) providing NHS services across Sussex joined together to form one single organisation. The West Sussex NHS was formed from PCTs Arun & Worthing, Crawley, Horsham & Chanctonbury, Mid-Sussex and Western Sussex. The Headquarters are based in Worthing with clinical and support teams working in localities.
The new organisation is responsible for the whole of West Sussex covering an area of 782 square miles. It caters for a total population of 762,000 and 95 GP practices.
West Sussex Health is responsible for:
- Making sure that people have access to GPs, dentists, pharmacists and opticians
- Providing community nursing services (such as health visitors and district nurses)
- Funding health services for people in their area
- Helping people to lead a healthy life
Looking to the future West Sussex Health aims to:
- Help people live as independently as possible
- Work to keep communities healthy
- Raise the quality of life of those in greatest need
- Spend the taxpayers money wisely
